What You Should Know Before Buying a Smartwatch?

Is it really worth buying a Smartwatch?  What are the advantages of having a smartwatch with you?  Will a smartwatch help you make your life easier? How much should you spend on your smartwatch?

If you have any of the above questions in your mind, then this post this just for you. Today we are going to explore what are the facts you need to be aware of before buying a smartwatch.

There are a few categories of smartwatches. The first category is tightly coupled with your smartphone and in this type of smartwatches, you can’t have a SIM card inside the watch.  When it comes to the second category, you can insert a separate  SIM  into the smartwatch and have separate data/voice connectivity to the mobile network.  The other type is a mix of these two where it can be connected to the smartphone while having an embedded SIM inside the smartwatch itself.

Usually, a smartwatch that is capable of having a SIM card in it is more expensive than the other type (i.e:  which does not support having a SIM card). If you really want to have an independent data connection for you are smartwatch,  then you should definitely go for that option.

For me, the best advantage of having a smartwatch is – getting instant notifications. With this, you don’t need to get your phone to find who is calling or to read a message instantly. This is really helpful when driving a vehicle. All you need to do is just turn your hand and read the notification.  If your smartwatch is synced with your mobile phone,  you can configure it to notify you about the other notifications as well (search social media messages,  emails,  WhatsApp messages, etc).  This will help you to save time because it will reduce the number of times you are checking your smartphone.  Moreover, this can be used to reduce social media addiction if you have good self-control.

The other benefit is monitoring your health.  Almost every smartwatch has an embedded heart rate sensor that can monitor your heart rate in real-time. Also, it is capable of tracking your workout schedule,  counting the number of steps,  tracking your sleep, etc.  Having a good understanding of these factors will help you to stay healthy on a daily basis. In addition to that, your smartwatch can notify you about your diet, water intake, and act as a daily fitness tracker.

Now let’s talk about what is the impact on the battery life of your smartphone.  If you use a smartwatch,  you can reduce the number of times you unlock your smartphone.  Needless to say that this will increase the battery life and the display lifetime of your smartphone. If you are a smartwatch support instant replying,  then you don’t even need to unlock your smartphone to reply to some of your messages.

If you want to track someone (for example your kid), a smartwatch is a handy solution.  You can track their real-time location using GPS  even if you are at a separate place.

Last but not least, your smartwatch can become a lifesaver in certain situations. For example, you can configure the smartwatch and your smartphone to notify a family member if you are heart rate drops to a certain level. See how important this is?

Smartwatches can be found with a  wide range of price tags.  If you just want to have an instant notification mechanism,  then you don’t need to spend a lot of money on a high-end smartwatch. However, if you are really concerned about your health and the durability of you are smartwatch then you can consider choosing a branded smartwatch.

I have reviewed a few smartwatches in my blog. If you need more information feel free to read them as well.
