My Verdict About Samsung Galaxy Note 9 vs Note 8

Hello! Today’s post is about a comparison between Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Note 8.

First of all, I would like to pay attention to the appearance of these two devices. If you take both devices at the same time you will feel that the Note 9 device is slightly bigger. For me, I found that the Note 9 device is comfortable to hold.

The Note 9 device has a screen of 6.4 inches while the Note 8 comes with 6.3 inches display. Both devices have the same pixel resolution (1440 x 2960 pixels). However, the pixel density of Note 9 is 516. The Note 8 has a pixel density of 521.

Generally speaking, I was not able to you clearly differentiate the display quality of these two devices.

Both devices have the same build quality. The front and back are made of glass. An aluminum frame can be found around the devices. I feel that Samsung has tried its best to offer a premium look for these devices.

You will get a “S pen” with both these devices. With note 8 you will get the S Pen from the same color (same as the device). When it comes to Note 9 you will find a yellow color pen.

You can have two Nano Sims with a micro SD card (sim tray).  The power button can be found on the right side of the devices. On the left side, you can find the volume adjust button. A USB type C port, 3.5 mm jack, main speaker, and microphone can be found at the bottom of the device. Both of these devices support fast charging.

The fingerprint sensor of Note 9 is mounted just below the main camera setup (towards the middle). But in Note 8, the fingerprint scanner is located towards the side. Personally, I find it easier when the fingerprint scanner is located at the back of the device.

The S Pen of the Samsung Note 9 has some cool features compared to the Note 8 device. You can connect the S Pen using Bluetooth and use it as a short-range controller of the device. For example, you can take photos (from both back and front cameras), control a presentation, or play a video. The S Pen has an embedded battery and based on my observation it can be used for up to 30 minutes. After that, you can simply put it back (into the device)  and it will charge automatically in less than 5 minutes.

Compared to the camera setup in Note 8,  I was able to observe some significant improvements in the Note 9 device. With Note 9  you can capture very detailed images. Also, the low-light performance of the Note 9 device is way better than what is included in Note 8. I found another cool feature (in Note 9) which is super slow motion. If the light condition is sufficient enough you can use the super slow motion feature to create really nice videos.

The sound experience of Note 9 is better than Note 8. This can be observed especially when playing a game. Both the main speaker and the earpiece will produce sound and this enables a stereo experience. Both devices are powered by Dolby Atmos technology.

Now let’s compare the battery is of these two devices. The Note 8 device has a 3300 mAh  battery while a 4000 mAh battery was found in the Note 9 device. I was able to use the (fully charged)  device for more than a day with heavy usage. Fast charging and wireless charging capability can be found in both devices.

In Note 9 you will be able to find upgraded support for “Samsung Dex” Technology. With this, you can connect your device to a TV or a projector.  At the same time if you have a wireless keyboard and mouse you can easily connect the device using Bluetooth and use it as a mini-computer. The user interface is capable of showing you the necessary notifications such as incoming calls and messages even if you are using the Dex technology.

Here is the wrap up of the comparison.

The display difference is 0.1 inches. The main camera setup of Note 9 is comparatively better than the camera in Note 8. So if you want to capture more detailed images then I would recommend considering the Note 9 device.  Both fingerprint scanners showed the same level of accuracy and speed. When it comes to the S Pen, the Note 9 device is the winner because of its capabilities.

Now I would like to know your thoughts about these two devices. If you are to choose one device out of these two which one do you prefer?
