If you are looking to buy an iPhone in Asia, Apple iPhone 12 and the Apple iPhone 12 Mini are the first options to evaluate.
Based on my previous experience, I believe by 2021 the most sold iPhone will be either iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Mini (due to the price range). This is my personal idea and I would like to know your opinion as well.
That is why I am posting this on my blog.
The unboxing experience of both these devices is almost the same. The box is slightly thin and you can find the device, paperwork, and the charging cable. You will have to buy the charging adaptor separately.
See the below image. You can see that the thickness is almost the same. But when it comes to the width and the height, the iPhone 12 Mini is smaller than the iPhone12.
The iPhone 12 Mini can be operated using a single hand. You can easily put it into your pocket or handbag or purse (the screen has a compact design).
For me, this design is very convenient because I can control the device easily with a single hand even while I am walking.
The power button is located towards the right side edge of the device. The silent button and the volume rocker is mounted at the left side edge. The SIM tray supports only a single Nano-SIM but you can download and install a secondary SIM as an eSIM.
When you pay attention to the bottom of the device, you will be able to find the speaker, the microphone, and the USB type C port. If you look closely you will notice that the speaker grill of the iPhone 12 Mini has only 4 holes while the iPhone 12 has 4 holes. The sound experience of the iPhone 12 is slightly better than the iPhone 12 mini.
Now let’s talk about the main difference between these devices – the display (or the screen).
A 6.1 inch OLED display is included in the iPhone 12 but in iPhone 12 mini, the display is 5.4 inches. Both these screens use the super retina HDR technology (according to Apple).
As you know the quality of the display will improve with its resolution and pixel density. The iPhone 12 has an 1170 x 2532 pixel density with 460-pixel density. in the iPhone 12 Mini, the resolution is 1080 x 2340 and the pixel density is 476.
Overall, the display quality looks the same. However, when you are using the iPhone 12 Mini, you will encounter problems with touches because the keys of the on-screen keyboard have less area compared to iPhone 12. You will end up touching the wrong key due to this. The display panel is protected using a ceramic shield front. The frame of the device is made of aluminum, and this offers durability. Both these devices are splash resistant, water-resistant, and dust resistant. Moreover, the face ID facility, barometer, accelerometer, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor are included in both devices.
Here is my favorite part of this device – the camera. If you look closely you will be able to see that the camera setup is almost the same (number of lenses, alignment, and the flashlight). Technically speaking both these devices are occupied with a 12 MP dual-camera setup (ultra-wide lens and wide lens). If you are making the decision solely based on the camera, then it is OK to choose any of these devices. You may want to consider other factors (such as size) to make the final decision.
Optical image stabilization technology is used for producing enhanced images. This will help to reduce the noisy colors and stabilize the image with more details.
Did you notice this? In iPhone 12 (dual camera) and 12 Pro (triple camera), the main difference was the camera setup. However, if you compare iPhone 12 with iPhone 12 Mini you don’t find that difference.
Both these devices support video recording up to 60 FPS in 4K. When it comes to slow-motion video recording, you can go up to 1080p at 240 FPS. The selfie camera also has the same specifications (12MP).
The face ID of both these devices has the same level of accuracy and response time.
Now let’s talk about the performance of these devices using the hardware specifications.
Both devices are powered by an Apple A14 Bionic chipset. The RAM is 4GB. Hence the time taken to play a game, edit a video, or edit an image is the same on both devices.
Performance and the behavior of the software applications are also the same. The only difference is the size of the display. However, if you are concerned about the internal storage, please look for the storage capacity of the device because this device has either 64 GB, 128 GB, or 256 GB capacity.
Last but not least let’s pay attention to the battery of this device. Before that, I would like to ask a question from you. Do you think that the Apple iPhone 12 mini has more battery life than the other?
Well, if your answer is “No”, then you are right. Let me explain. The battery capacity of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini is 2815 mAh and 2227 mAh. However, as I said earlier, hardware and software specification (chipset, RAM, etc) is the same. Because of this, the battery life of the iPhone 12 Mini is a few hours less than the iPhone 12.
Now I have shared my experience with you. It is time to share your experience in the comment section below.
